Experience Luang Prabang, attend a Baci ceremony, and the Tagbat (alms offering). Visit the Pak Ou Caves and the Kuangsi Falls, enjoy the scenery from a boat on Nam Song River in Vang Vieng and explore the capital: Vientiane.

Day 1. Arrive Luang Prabang (-/-/D)

Arrive Luang Prabang, the world heritage city. Your local guide will welcome you at Luang Prabang International airport.

 Private transfer to your hotel where a welcome drink will be served. Check in.

 If time permits, orientation tour of the town by tuk tuk.

 Climb up Phousi hill for a panoramic view of the city and the Mekong river. Drop in the old city for a walk or shop at the night market.

Later you will participate in a Baci ceremony - Baci is a ceremony in Laos which has been practiced for hundreds of years. The term commonly used is “sou khuan” which means “spirit enhancing or spirit calling”. The ceremony involves the tying of white cotton strings around a person’s wrists and a prayer saying or well-wishing for the person that the ceremony is intended for. The Baci ceremony is held on many different occasions or events throughout the year. It can be held any day of the week though it has to be on a good day in the lunar calendar. These good days are known to elders, senior monks, or ex-monks. The ceremony can be held for both sad times and happy times.

Day 2. Luang Prabang - Pak Ou Caves - Luang Prabang (B/L/D)

Breakfast at your hotel. This morning embark at the local pier of Luang Prabang on a traditional boat cruise upstream on the Mekong river to visit the sacred Buddha caves. On the way stop at Thin Hong, a picturesque village to get a glimpse of daily life. Visit Tham Ting and Tham Phoum caves in which you find hundreds of Buddha statues. Lunch on board.

 Return to Luang Prabang by boat.

Visit the Royal Palace Museum housing the most important treasures of Laos’ recent past, continue to Vat Xieng Thong at the tip of the peninsula. The oldest and most beautiful temple of the UNESCO World heritage town dates back from the 16th century. The roof sweeps low to the ground and glass colored panels adorn the walls of the chapels. Visit the residential neighborhoods of the peninsular. We will finish the day with a visit to Wat Mai.

Day 3. Luang Prabang - Kuangsi (B/L/-)

Excursion by car to Kuangsi waterfall 32 km to the west of Luang Prabang. Short walk through the forest to the waterfall. After enjoying the scenery, take a swim in one of the nearby clear pools. Visit the Asian bear sanctuary.

Picnic lunch at the falls. Return to Luang Prabang, afternoon at leisure.

Day 4. Living Land - Vang Vieng (B/L/D)

Early morning, when the sun rise, participate in the Tagbat ceremony, the monks’ alms offering. This ritual is an important part of Lao people’s life and offers a memorable experience and great snapshots. Your guide will explain how to follow the strict customs and rules involved. After the ceremony you will visit a local market. Return to your hotel for breakfast.

After breakfast, leave for Vang Vieng, along the mountainous road with beautiful panorama views. Make a stop at Phatang (17 km north of Vang Vieng). From the village temple you will get an outstanding view over the mountains.

Lunch at a local restaurant.

 Arrive at Vang Vieng, famous for its beautiful landscape and limestone karsts. Take a small boat on Nam Song River amid beautiful scenery before visiting Tham Chang cave with its stunning view over the valley. Transfer to your hotel for check in. Dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 5. Vang Vieng - Vientiane (B/L/D)

Breakfast at your hotel. Drive to Vientiane; leave the karst mountains towards the rich plain of the Mekong. Arrive in the capital at lunch time. Lunch at a local restaurant.

 Afternoon visit Vientiane, the capital of Laos: Vat Sisaket, the oldest and most beautiful temple of Vientiane, Ho Prakeo, a royal temple turned museum. Visit That Luang Stupa, the most revered shrine in Laos and stop at Patouxay (the Arch of Triumph). Transfer to your hotel for check in.

Dinner at Makphet restaurant.


Day 6. Vientiane - Departure (B/-/-)

Breakfast at your hotel. Time at leisure until your transfer to Vientiane airport.

According to your flight schedule transfer to the airport for departure back to the UK.
