Carnival in Rio stands out not only as a celebration, but also as competition. The Samba Parade is not an ordinary street party, where people move in cadence but rather a much orchestrated show of vast proportions. Rehearsal and preparation take place in special locations, where the samba schools organize their work to demonstrate their enormous and incredible production in a wonderful and organized parade in the Sambadrome.

This parade is a huge event that involves thousands of people in order to create an incredible and unique experience. There are 4 types of parades in the Carnival competition. Friday and Saturday are the days where the schools from group A (formerly "access") parade. The winner of this group is upgraded to the special group in the next year. The Special Group includes the most famous and prestigious schools and parade on Sunday and Monday, the most popular evenings. Tuesday is the day for the children, where each school takes their "kids parade” version to the avenue, and the Saturday after Carnival is the “Winners’ Parade” day. The venue of the parade, the Sambadrome, can accommodate about 70,000 people. It becomes too small compared to the magnitude of the event, and the demand for tickets is very high. Many visitors from all countries in the world come to attend the show every year in order to experience it at least once in their lives.
