Learn about our cultural heritage in a very positive and joyful way, all with the promise of delicious chocolate to wrap up the tour.
Day 5. Mombacho and Ometepe (B/-/-)
Transfer to San Jorge port, where you take the ferry to Ometepe Island. En route, visit Mombacho Volcano for a hiking tour. In the afternoon take a walk at Charco Verde Nature Reserve just next to your hotel.
The island of Ometepe is situated in one of the world´s largest fresh water lakes, Lake Nicaragua. Ometepe has served as home to indigenous tribes and cultures for many centuries, of which the many pre-Columbian petroglyphs are silent witnesses. The two volcanoes on the island, Concepción and Maderas, offer stunning views when approaching Ometepe by boat from the mainland. Both volcanoes have their own climate and unique vegetation and hiking either of them is a great way to enjoy spectacular views of the surroundings. There are various trails differing from easy to difficult. El Tigrillo trail is an adventurous trail of moderate difficulty through the vegetation of a primary forest, with a length of 2.5 kilometers.
The natural reserve Charco Verde is a protected area located between Ometepe´s two volcanoes. The area consists of a lagoon, a beach, and a forest. The reserve is named Charco Verde (Green Puddle) due to the green colour of the lagoon. Many birds find shelter in this part of the island so birdwatching enthusiasts should keep an eye out! The hike is not strenuous and leads up a hill, from where you have nice views of the surroundings.
Day 6. Ometepe Island - Nature Tour (B/-/-)
This natural adventure begins at the Peña Inculta reserve, where groups of white-faced howler monkeys, squirrels, iguanas and tropical birds inhabit. Next up is a visit to Hacienda Finca Magdalena, a community-run farm initially founded in 1888, where you get an insight into the process of organic coffee cultivation while doing an impressive short hike. The last stop of the tour, is Ojo de Agua, a beautiful natural spring surrounded by forest where you can have a refreshing swim.
