Day 2. Buenos Aires (B/-/D)

Breakfast in the hotel then short sightseeing in Buenos Aires.

Buenos Aires is one of the most fascinating cities in both Latin America and the world. Be it for its splendid and varied architecture, with its old Colonial buildings, French palaces and state-of-the-art skyscrapers; for its vibrant nightlife and endless cultural options; or maybe just for the rich identity of the Porteños, who proudly bear the European heritage of their ancestors, more and more visitors are coming to visit.

Discover the history of “May Square”, the site of the most important historical events and where the protagonists made history. See its surroundings, the most emblematic buildings, and learn all about them. Then enjoy May Avenue and wonder in awe at the oldest residential neighborhood in Buenos Aires: San Telmo. Walk along its cobble-stoned streets and discover its antiques shops and picturesque buildings. Live and feel the original Tango in the neighborhood of La Boca: walk along “Caminito Street” and enjoy the dancers and souvenir shops. See the mythical Boca Juniors soccer stadium. Contemplate the modernization of the city whilst traveling along “Madero Port” and its exclusive docks, full of excellent restaurants and large office buildings. Pass through the Retiro neighborhood and move on to see Palermo and its most exclusive residential area before finally arriving at Recoleta. Once there, discover the final resting place of Eva Peron, “Evita” and wander through Recoleta Cemetery where she is to be found. Afternoon free at leisure.

In the evening, dinner and tango show at La Ventana http://www.laventanaweb.com/

In the very heart of San Telmo neighbourhood, this refurbished historic conventillo is a classic building of the Buenos Aires culture. La Ventana is a trip to older times. The interior architectural style is preserved, and creates the ideal setting for a unique experience; 35 artists in scene, two tango orchestras, a folklore band, dancers and singers; a menu that consists of several traditional and international dishes, and a list of excellent Argentine wines

After an hour's drive we arrive in Puerto Piramides, where we take a boat tour (optional) for whale watching (Eubalaena australis) between June and December, and of Southern Sea lions (Otaria flavescens) and cormorants between January and March. There is no navigation in Puerto Piramides during April and May. Around noon we leave for Punta Delgada to have lunch (not included) at the Lighthouse complex, where we have the chance of walking down to the beach to take a closer look of the elephant seals. Then we depart for Punta Cantor to observe the peninsula’s Atlantic coastline, and we reach the initial stretch of the Valdes Inlet (Caleta Valdes). After the observation and interpretation of the coastal geology, we drive back to the Ameghino Isthmus for a tour of the Visitor Centre. Along the way we have good chance of viewing animals such as guanacos, rheas, foxes, cavies, armadillos and skunks, among others.

Whale Watching in Peninsula Valdés by Yellow Submarine

Unlike the conventional whale watching, the semi-submersible Yellow Submarine allows us to watch whales submersed in their environment. Underwater, the perspective looks completely different, which is comparable only to the experience of diving among them. While they remain close to the vessel watch them through the 40 viewing windows on the lower deck. On board, passengers can walk around at their pleasure on the submersed lower deck, or on the outdoor upper deck.
