Day 1. Arrive Guatemala - Transfer to Antigua (-/-/-)
Welcome to Guatemala. Your guide and driver will meet you at the airport for your transfer to your hotel in Antigua.
Antigua is among the world's best conserved colonial cities in the Americas. It is a magic and captivating small town that makes you feel time might have stopped 300 years ago. From its colonial architecture to its beautiful surroundings; strolling through town on the cobblestone streets, you will experience the splendours of ancient times! A few things you can find in Antigua are art galleries and exhibits, films, coffee shops, amazing cuisine, cute little bars and much more.
Day 2. Pacaya Volcano Trek (B/L/-)
After breakfast, your guide will meet you at the lobby of your hotel to transfer you to Pacaya Volcano. Pacaya is the most visited volcano in the country. With its easy access from the city of Antigua this volcano is a must when visiting Guatemala. Active since 1965 and a height of 2,500m above sea level. A 2.5 hours hike is required to reach the top. Enjoy a delicious lunch as picnic style at the top surrounded by a magnificent view. After the picnic, you will start hiking back to the vehicle for your transfer to Antigua.
Day 3. Antigua Walking Tour and Zip-lining (B/L/-)
After breakfast, your guide will meet you at the lobby of your hotel to start your walking tour around Antigua. Colonial architecture, fine arts, terracotta, ceramics, wooden sculptures, a great variety of art galleries, shops and restaurants. Find out the secrets of Antigua on this walking tour; don’t forget to wear comfy shoes! You will visit the Central Plaza, where you can find the main buildings (El Portal, Palacio de Capitanes, City Hall & The Cathedral), San Francisco and beautiful facade of La Merced. Lunch is held in a local venue. Afterwards, you will experience zip lining. Dinner is on your own.
Day 4. Chichicastenango Market & Transfer to Lake Atitlan (B/-/-)
After breakfast you will be transferred to Chichicastenango. Chichicastenango is one of the most colourful markets in Latin America. People from all around meet every Thursday and Sunday to sell their goods. You may find everything from vegetables, fruits, masks, colourful textiles, handbags to mystic Mayan ceremonies. Pascual Abaj in Chichicastenango is a Mayan shrine dedicated to the God Huyup Tak´ah. Around the pre- Columbian idol you will see candles, flowers and sacrificial offerings. Maya ceremonies take place very often so you may be witness of one. Walk around the market and visit Santo Tomas church. In this 400 year old church, you will witness syncretism, a term which means a mix of two religions. After the tour, you will hike to Pascual Abaj, a moderate hike to get to this Mayan Shrine where worshipers gather regularly to perform ceremonies. Lunch is on your own. Transfer to Lake Atitlan for your overnight stay.
Day 5. Lake Atitlan - Kayak and Hike Tzununa hill (B/L/-)
There are a few lakes such as Lake Atitlán. Its unique characteristics make it a fantastic place to appreciate sunsets, culture and amazing views. Famous writer Aldus Huxley called Lake Atitlan “the most beautiful lake in the world” but “with additional embellishments” compared to Lake Como. After breakfast your guide will meet you at the lobby of your hotel for your boat transfer to the kayak starting point. Paddle for approximate 45 minutes along delightful peninsulas admiring the shore's beautiful gardens. After kayaking you will start the hike to Tzununa. The north shore of Lake Atitlan Guatemala has no true road access, so you will be hiking along ancient paths that have been used by the Kaqchikel Maya for centuries. You will view villagers going about their daily life and see some of the most magnificent scenery in the world. After a steep walk down, you will be transferred to a local restaurant for lunch. After lunch, your guide will transfer you back to your hotel.
Day 6. Iximche Tour & Flight to Petén (Tikal Area) (B/-/-)
Iximche, a Pre Columbian Mayan site in the Western Highlands of Guatemala, it is not the major archaeological site, but it was founded by the Kaqchikel Maya in 1470 after a prolonged conflict with the Quiche. It was the capital of the Late Pre-classic Kaqchikel kingdom from 1,470 until its abandonment in 1,524 with the Spaniards arrival. After breakfast your driver will transfer you to Iximche archaeological site for a brief tour of this post-classic site. After the tour transfer to Guatemala City airport for your flight to Peten. On arrival transfer to your hotel.
Day 7. Tikal Tour & Flight to Guatemala City (B/L/-)
After breakfast you will be transferred to Tikal archeological site. City and ceremonial center of the ancient Maya civilization, Tikal became an important ceremonial center with the construction of major pyramids and temples. Its best years were the Late Classic Period (600-900AD). Tikal National Park contains some of the most fascinating archaeological remains of the ancient Maya Civilization. Excavated by Pennsylvania University between 1956 and 1969, Tikal is the largest excavated site in the American continent. It is Guatemala´s most famous cultural and natural preserve.The tour covers the most important temples such as Complex Q, Temple IV, Lost World, Central Plaza, surrounding temples (I and II) as well as North and South Acropolis. Lunch is held in a restaurant in the middle of the jungle. Afterwards, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Guatemala City. Transfer to your hotel in Guatemala City.
Day 8. Departure (B/-/-)
Enjoy a delicious breakfast at your hotel. When you are ready your driver will transfer you to Guatemala City airport for your international departure flight.
