Day 1. Arrive Guatemala - Transfer to Antigua (-/-/-)
Welcome to Guatemala. Your guide and driver will meet you at the airport for your transfer to your hotel in Antigua. Antigua is among the world's best conserved colonial cities in the Americas. It is a magical and captivating small town that makes you feel time might have stopped 300 years ago. From its colonial architecture to its beautiful surroundings; strolling through town on the cobblestone streets you will experience the splendours of ancient times!
Day 2. Pacaya Volcano Hike (B/L/-)
After breakfast your guide will meet you at the lobby of your hotel for a tour of the Volcano. This volcano is one of the most visited in Guatemala. With 2,552m (8,373ft) above the sea level it’s been active since 1,965. It takes about 1.5 hour to hike from the base to the top. Enjoy beautiful views toward other volcanoes and if its clear enough, you may also see the south coastline. This active volcano has a Strombolian activity, but occasional Plinian eruptions also occur. A few of its eruptions have showered Guatemala City and its surroundings with ash. Start your hike from the base, walk through a pine forest and enjoy the beautiful view of other three volcanoes. When you reach the top, look for some steam wholes from the surface. Find a perfect spot for a picnic style lunch. When you reach the base, your driver and guide will transfer you back to your hotel in Antigua.
Day 3. Yoga Session in Antigua & Afternoon Walking Tour (B/-/-)
After breakfast enjoy a yoga session at Panza Verde Yoga studio. The restaurant/hotel is a stunning old house of brick, stone and fine wood. Plants seem to spill from the walls and ledges in various courtyards. Art is scattered everywhere. The place is simply amazing and have the best yoga instructors in town. After the workout session enjoy lunch anywhere you like. Your afternoon walking tour will start at 2pm. Colonial architecture, fine arts, terracotta, ceramics, wooden sculptures, a great variety of traditional costumes and weavings. Find out the secrets of Antigua on this walking tour that will show you both architecture and flavour.
Day 4. Iximche Archaeological Site & Transfer to Lake Atitlan (B/-/-)
After breakfast your guide will transfer you to Lake Atitlan. On your way stop at Iximche archaeological site. Iximche, a Pre Columbian Mayan site in the Western Highlands of Guatemala is not the major archaeological site, but was founded by the Kaqchikel Maya in 1,470 after a prolonged conflict with the Quiche. It was the capital of the Late Pre-classic Kaqchikel kingdom from 1,470 until its abandonment in 1,524 with the Spaniards arrival.
After the tour transfer to Lake Atitlan.
Day 5. Kayaking & Cerro de Oro Hike (B/L/-)
After breakfast your guide will transfer you by boat to the starting point for your kayaking adventure. With three stunning volcanoes rising out of its emerald surface, Lake Atitlan is for sure the best way to be introduced to the indigenous culture in the highlands of Guatemala. This lake is characterised by its natural beauty and surrounded by gorgeous volcanoes. The famous writer Aldous Huxley considered it the most beautiful lake in the world. Kayak for about 1 hour and exercise your core. On arrival start a steep hike of Cerro de Oro, commonly known as the sleeping elephant, it’s a hill located on the slopes of Atitlan volcano. Along the trail you will appreciate wonderful views of Lake Atitlan. At the summit of Cerro de Oro you will visit a Mayan shrine in which ceremonies take place. The elderly locals believe that at Cerro de Oro there´s a place called "La Puerta" or the door, a direct access to the underworld. Admire one of the most beautiful views in the country. When you reach the other side of this hill, transfer to Santiago. Enjoy Lunch at one of the local restaurants.
A private boat will take you back to your hotel.
Day 6. Chichicastenango Market & Flight to Peten (B/-/-)
After breakfast transfer to Chichicastenango. This market is one of the most colourful markets in Latin America. People from all different towns meet every Thursday and Sunday to sell and buy all kinds of goods. You may find everything from vegetables, fruits, masks, colourful textiles, handbags to mystic Mayan ceremonies. Enjoy the commerce and the movement of this local market. This is a great place to buy your souvenirs such as textiles, wooden masks and handicrafts. After the market your driver will transfer you to Guatemala city for your flight to Peten. On arrival transfer to your hotel for overnight.
Day 7. Tikal Sunrise Tour & Flight to Guatemala City (B/L/-)
Tikal became an important ceremonial center of the ancient Maya civilisation with the construction of major pyramids and temples. The best years were the Late Classic Period (600-900AD). Tikal has some of the most fascinating archaeological remains of the ancient Maya Civilization, excavated by Pennsylvania University between 1,956 and 1,969; Tikal is the largest excavated site in the American continent. It is Guatemala´s most famous cultural and natural preserve. Rise early to see the sunrise from the top of the main pyramid. Return to the hotel for breakfast. After breakfast, your guide will take you to Tikal Main Plaza and show you the layout of the temples, architecture, history, and the theories of why they disappeared. If you are lucky, a few monkeys, parrots, macaws and toucans will be on site. After the tour enjoy lunch at a restaurant in the middle of the jungle and transfer to Mundo Maya airport for your flight to Guatemala City.
Day 8. Departure (B/-/-)
Enjoy a delicious breakfast at your hotel. When you are ready your driver will transfer you to Guatemala City airport for your international departure flight. Depending on your departing flight, tours of Guatemala City’s attractions can be arranged – Ixchel Mayan Textile Museum, the Historic District and Avenda Sexta (6th ave pedestrian street), Popol Vuh Museum and more.
