Also visit a lacquer ware workshop where the unique Shan lacquer wares are produced in a delicate way.
Day 2. Keng Tong - Ho Kyin Village Trekking (B/-/-)
After breakfast at the hotel, we drive in the direction of Tachilek (approx. 1 hour) and head off road to the top of Ho Jong Mountain. The road is very steep and narrow and we can only drive up if the road condition is good. We can also walk up, which takes 2 hours. Once we reach the top, we will see 4 different Akha villages. In some villages there are 3 different religions; some people are Buddhists, others are still animists or have converted to Catholicism. Between each village is a valley and the path leads down approx. 15 minutes and up again approx. 30 minutes. The entrance of the first village where people are still animists is very interesting, decorated with the skin of a dog. Other houses have a stuffed wild cat hanging over the entrance. The Akha are very hospitable and enjoy welcoming you to their houses for a chat around the stove. We make the tour from village to village and return back to the car. If you wish to do more hiking, we can also walk down the hill, which takes approx. 1 hour. The path leads through farms with beautiful views of the surrounding hills. Enjoy a packed lunch on the way. Return to Keng Tong by car. Visit U Mulein Da’s unique Shan lacquer ware shop. This lacquer ware is distinctively different from the one from Bagan; it is not engraved, but the reliefs are glued on. Drive to the top of Lone Tree Hill for views over the surrounding countryside and Keng Tong. Return to the hotel.
Day 3. Keng Tong - Wan Kan Village Trekking (B/-/-)
After breakfast at the hotel, visit Keng Tong market, an interesting place to observe local life and minority people who come to buy and trade their goods in town. Then, we drive to the Li-Shan Village of Wan Kan to sample the local whisky, made from rice favoured by all the mountain tribes of the region. Continue on foot to the villages of the surrounding region where we can see the unique Ahn, Akah and Lahu ethnic minorities. Firstly, trek 1.5 hrs to Pan Loe village and then continue for 45 minutes to Naung Sheng, an Akah village. Picnic style packed lunch or local style lunch will be provided at an Akah house. In the afternoon, drive back to Keng Tong.
Day 4. Keng Tong - Loimwe Village Trekking (B/-/-)
After breakfast, we drive to Loimwe (approx. 2 hours' drive), an old colonial town with different colourful tribes. The main attraction along the way is the scenery on the ascent to Loimwe, which passes through forests, terraced rice fields and a lake. On the way to Loimwe, lunch on the way, and you will have several stops to visit different villages. Wan Lun Shan Village: walk and explore the native village life; the Ho Lup Akha village where you can see the traditional Akha tribes with their colourful dresses; the Naung Cho Wa tribe, in former times headhunters - nowadays living from pears and other fruits and Pan Wai Lahu tribe villages on the left and right side of the road.
