Day 1. Arrive Khao Sok National Park (-/-/-)
You will be transferred to your hotel in Khao Sok from a nearby airport/railway station of beach resort. The rest of the morning is at leisure and you may want to rent a bicycle to explore the area or why not just kick back and bask in the beauty of the scenery, whilst enjoying a meal or a refreshing drink.
Afternoon tour, option 1.
This afternoon our guide will take you to a small creek and help you getting into a canoe. All you need to do is lie back, have your camera ready and relax, your guide will be sitting behind you and doing all the paddling! The creek meanders through the Takuapa mangrove forest jungle, the tangled roots of mangrove trees are almost everywhere, but the real attraction are the 100+ year old Banyans whose massive roots turned into new parts of the trees. Also the huge ferns on both sides of the narrow creek increase the jungly feeling. With only the occasional splash of your guide’s paddle and the birds singing as background music you slowly ‘glide’ through an almost prehistoric world. And if you are lucky; snakes, monkeys, birds and monitor lizards can be spotted! It’s only a trip of about 1 hour but feels much longer due to the fairytale like scenery.
Afternoon tour, option 2.
During the afternoon you will enjoy a guided kayaking trip down the Sok River, which runs right next to the resort. This is a great way to experience the natural beauty of the area and spot wildlife, such as monkeys, hornbills, kingfishers and monitor lizards. You’ll be driven to a nearby cave where local people come to make merit (thambun), an intrinsic part of Buddhist belief. Walk a short distance through the cave and there is the river! With your guide you will head gently and safely down the Sok River for about an hour and a half. On the river's edge you will see openings to wonderful views of Khao Sok's breath-taking landscapes, views often hidden by the forest leaves. Tree roots entwine like claws and burst onto the limestone cliffs and rock surfaces.
Day 2. Khao Sok National Park (B/L/-)
At 08.30 you will be transferred by shared minivan from your Khao Sok Hotel to Ban Ta Khun for a pre-trip briefing. Around 09.30 we arrive at Rajaparaba Dam and board a long tail boat for a scenic tour of the breathtaking limestone karst formations. We arrive at the Floating Bungalows at around 11.00 where it’s time to take a swim in pristine waters or to take a kayak and explore the many inlets of the lake. You can also just relax and sunbathe while taking in the scenery.
At noon it’s time to enjoy a traditional Thai lunch prepared with freshly caught fish, flavorful southern Thai curries and delicious local vegetables. At 13.00 we depart from the raft house by long tail boat for the trailhead to enjoy a trek through Khao Sok’s prehistoric jungle. This wilderness is home to 5% of the world’s species, like langurs, gibbons, macaques, rare birds, butterflies and many more. The indigenous peoples used these trails before the dam was constructed and have a rich history that your guide will tell you all about along the way.
Depending on the season, you may even visit a cave with spectacular limestone formations hanging from the ceiling. Around 16.00 it’s time to return to the raft house and enjoy an afternoon snack of pineapple and watermelon. After these refreshments you board your long tail boat to enjoy the scenic landscape one last time before returning to the pier and transfer back to your hotel.
