If time permits orientation tour of the town by tuk tuk.

Day 2. Luang Prabang - Kuangsi Waterfall - Butterfly Park - Luang Prabang (B/L/D)

Breakfast at your hotel. Drive to Kuangsi Falls. Enjoy the beautiful scenery, take a swim or just relax nearby the clear pools of tiered limestone formations. Stop at the Asian Bear Sanctuary.

 Picnic lunch at the waterfall.

Return to Luang Prabang. Visit the butterfly farm to discover exotic butterflies from Laos (best during green season– less butterflies during dry season).

Visit the colorful Traditional Art & Ethnology Center (TAEC, Mondays closed), featuring several ethnicities of Laos. Climb up Phousi Hill for a panoramic view of the city and the Mekong River.

 Dinner at Couleur café restaurant.

Day 3. Luang Prabang - Namkhan Experience (Kayak) (B/L/-)

Breakfast at your hotel.

Leave Luang Prabang for a drive of half an hour to the starting point of your kayak adventure on the banks of the Nam Khan, at the village of Ban Mout.

Basic kayak instructions will be provided by your experienced guide before heading down the river. It takes 2 hours to the first break, at the Tad Sae Waterfall. Its limestone cascades with florescent turquoise pools between the trees offer a stunning sight.

After a picnic lunch, there is time for swimming at Tad Sae. You will continue paddling through beautiful landscapes around 2 ½ hours until reaching the Tomb of 19th century French Explorer, Henri Mouhot, a natural scientist, who was the first European to rediscover Angkor Wat and traveled all the way to Luang Prabang.

A last stop (optional) on the way back to Luang Prabang can be made at a traditional weaving village of Ban Phanom.

Approximately 1 hour transfer time / 5 and half hours kayaking

Dinner on own account. Accommodation at your hotel.

Day 4. Luang Prabang - Pak Ou Caves - Kamu Jungle Lodge (B/L/D)

Breakfast at your hotel. Embark on a traditional boat to Kamu Lodge, a jungle camp set with 20 safari style tents, on the banks of the Mekong, two hours from Luang Prabang. On the way stop at Pakou Caves near Luang Prabang.

Arrive at Kamu lodge at noon, check in to your tent and have lunch in the middle of the rice fields.

Kamu Lodge is offering a deliberate retreat from comforts of modern life. Leaving behind WiFi, satellite television, or even an unlimited flow of electricity, Kamu Lodge is a private eco-lodge engaged with low-impact tourism, seeking a balance between tourism and conservation of local culture and ethnic heritage. Involving inhabitants of the surrounding villages, it is a good example of integration within local life and natural environment. In the heart of the Lao jungle, on the banks of the Mekong, Kamu Lodge strikes a delicate balance between tourism and the maintenance of the region’s cultural and ethnic heritage.

In the afternoon different activities will be proposed :

  • Visit the local Kamu village

  • Learn about and participate in rice planting and cultivation

  • Fishing with a traditional net

  • Traditional gold panning

  • Bamboo weaving

  • Crossbow shooting (children must be accompanied by an adult)

  • Petanque (Boule) – the Lao national game

  • Half day trekking

  • Swimming in the Mekong

Enjoy a delicious Lao BBQ dinner, locally called ‘Sindat’.

Overnight in Kamu lodge tents.

Day 5. Kamu Lodge - Luang Prabang - Departure (B/-/-)

Breakfast at Kamu Lodge.

Return to Luang Prabang by boat, arrive before lunch. Lunch at leisure. Time for some last minute shopping.

Transfer to the airport for your departure flight.

The itinerary may be subject to change depending on circumstances.

TRIP NOTES

You have chosen to visit some remote areas of Laos where tourism is still in its infancy. We thank you for your open-mindedness and consideration. We are persuaded you will enjoy your time in these little visited parts of our beautiful country. We take this opportunity to inform you that you might occasionally face some situations when you may not be attended in a very professional manner simply because staffs have not necessarily been properly trained. In developing countries, it is an on-going concern which is being addressed by the relevant local and national authorities but we rest assured that tour guide will do his/her utmost to compensate the eventual weaknesses encountered here and there. We thank you for your understanding and look forward to your feedback.
