Pangkalan Bun - Semarang - Yogyakarta - Bromo - Kalibaru - Bali - Komodo - Bali

Trek in Borneo's rainforests and spot wild orangutans, then fly to Yogyakarta and visit Borobudur, the largest Buddhist monument in the world. Visit traditional Javanese villages, admire Prambanan, view the sunrise at Mt. Bromo, then explore Bali & Komodo.

Day 1. Arrive Pangkalan Bun, Kalimantan (Borneo), Indonesia

On arrival at Pangkalan Bun airport your guide will meet you and transfer you to your accommodation.

The rest of the day is free to relax.

Day 2. Pangkalan Bun - Kumai

In the morning we will take you to Kumai to board your boat. The boat is a traditional Klotok wooden river boat with a roof which forms the upper deck where you can view the rain forest as it glides by. The guide's team includes the boatman, a cook and expert guide. In the peaceful afternoon we will slowly explore the quiet river by the klotok while observing the monkeys along the riverside. Dinner on the boat and overnight on your klotok boat or lodge depending on your choice.

Day 3. Orangutan Exploration

After breakfast travel up river for about 2 hours and then up a side creek to Camp Leakey where the older orangutans are reintroduced into the rain forest. En route stop at Pondok Tanguy, the rehabilitation center for the new ex-captive orangutans. At Camp Leakey you will have opportunity to trek into the rain forest with your expert guide and the forestry rangers to appreciate the flora as well as perhaps sighting wild orangutans, gibbons, macaques, and birds. Lunch provided on boat. Afternoon visit the feeding station to see rehabilitated orangutans being fed. We will then sail back down the river for overnight on the klotok boat or your chosen lodge.

Day 4. Pangkalan Bun - Yogyakarta

At the appropriate time, we sail back to the harbour then drive to the airport for about 45 minutes. From the airport of Pangkalan Bun, we fly you toYogyakarta, the center of art and culture of the Javanese, via Jakarta, or to Semarang direct and from there transfer to Yogyakarta (approx. 4 hours). Transfer to hotel. Afternoon at leisure. 

Day 5. Borobudur - Candirejo Village Tour

Be picked up by your guide in the morning and drive to Borobudur. On arrival, climb up the temple of Borobudur till the top. Learn from your guide about the Buddhist philosophy by exploring the reliefs on Borobudur. Visit Pawon and Mendut temples. Continue to exploring Candirejo village, a traditional Javanese village which is rich in its natural surroundings and being promoted for village tourism, portraying traditional Javanese culture and daily life through traditional houses, plantation resources, art performances, farming and local food. You will participate in daily social activities to feel the real traditional village atmosphere, their culture and lifestyle. Return to hotel.


Day 6. Yogyakarta - Prambanan

Your guide will pick you up in the morning and take you on a cultural Yogyakarta tour to visit the Sultan's Palace, Water Castle (Taman Sari), Ngasem Bird Market, Batik Home Industry and Silverware at Kotagede. Lunch at local restaurant. Then your journey continues with a visit to the Prambanan temple complex, the most important Hindu temple built on Java in the 9th century with three temples dedicated to Brahma, Shiva and Vishnu. Return to hotel.

Day 7. Yogyakarta - Malang by Train

Note: no guide assistance on the train journey

Breakfast at the hotel. Check out and depart to Yogyakarta train station and catch your morning train to Malang city then transfer to the Bromo area. Check in to your hotel and enjoy free time at your own leisure and meals on your personal account.

Day 8. Bromo Sunrise Trip - Kalibaru

At 4am a 4WD will take you to one of the world's most famous viewpoints at Mt. Pananjakan (2,750 m) on the rim of the Tengger caldera to enjoy the sunrise breaking over the volcano cones including Mt. Bromo and an active Mt. Semeru in the background. The views are breathtaking. We continue across the sand sea to the active Mt. Bromo volcano and climb the 2245 steps to visit the crater (2,500 m). A horseback ride, then a 4WD will bring you back to the lodge for breakfast. After a break, check out and drive to Kalibaru to your accommodation. Lunch at a local restaurant en route. Stop in one of the beaches in Jember, either Papuma beach or Watu Ulo beach, before check in.

Day 9. Kalibaru - Ketapang Banyuwangi

After breakfast, check out and start your tour to the Kalibaru plantations (coffee, rubber, chocolate, etc). Continue driving around 2  hours for your accommodation in Ketapang, Banyuwangi.  Lunch at local restaurant en route. Evening free at leisure.

Day 10. Ijen Blue Fire Tour - Ubud, Bali

During the night we will pick you up from your hotel to take you to see the Blue Fire (sighting not guaranteed, depending on the weather). Later short transfer to the Paltuding Ranger Post for your Ijen Tour. The Ijen Crater exhibits a special type of volcanic feature common to Indonesia, about 1 km in diameter and 175 meters deep. The floor is covered completely by a warm lake, milky blue to green in color, held back by a dam built many years ago by the Dutch, in order to keep the hot minerals laden water from raining down to the crop lands below. Afterward rejoin your car and drive back to the hotel. After a short break, check out and drive to Ketapang harbour and cross to Bali. On arrival in Gilimanuk harbour, Bali, continue to drive to your accommodation in Ubud. Lunch en route.

Day 11. Barong and Keris Dance - Ubud - Sribatu - Kintamani - Lake Batur - Sebatu - Tegalang

After breakfast, see the Barong and Keris dance. The dance performace presents the endless metaphysical battle between good and bad. Continue to the monkey forest and Ubud the ancient King Palace of Puri Saren and the home of painters with their 'expressionistic' Ubud style paintings, Sribatu to explore the spice gardens. You will then stop for lunch at Kintamani Volcano with wonderful views of the active volcano and Lake Batur. After that, you will go to Sebatu, the holy spring water temple, Tegalalang for a beautiful view of rice terraces, and Goa Gajah the elephant cave temple. 

Day 12. Taman Ayun - Tanah Lot - Uluwatu Temple and Kecak Dance

After breakfast, check out from your hotel. Today you will visit one of the Bali's most beautiful temples called Taman Ayun. Then continue to Tanah Lot. In the afternoon we will drive to Uluwatu Temple and enjoy the Kecak Dance, a dramatic performance. The dance will be performed on an open stage on a cliff in the Uluwatu Temple complex. Proceed to the famous open-air beachfront café at Jimbaran Beach to have dinner (own expense).  Then transfer to your hotel in the Kuta area. 

Day 13.  Bali - Labuan Bajo - Rinca Island - Kalong Island

Transfer to the airport for your flight to Labuan Bajo. Upon arrival at Labuan Bajo Airport, you will be met by our local staff and with a private car take a short drive to the harbour to board your boat and cruise to Rinca Island about 1.5 hours away. Lunch will be served on boat. Rinca is one of the small islands in the Komodo National Park, home of various species of wild animals such as black buffalos, pigs, deer, monkeys, the Komodo Dragon, and birds. Together with your guide and the forestry rangers, you will be trekking on this island in searching for the Komodo Dragon and other wildlife as well as the exotic fauna. From Rinca Island we will then proceed boating to Kalong Island, a small island covered by mangrove trees and is the ideal habitat for the bats (flying foxes). In the late afternoon you will enjoy spectacular views with thousand of bats flying out from the island in search of food. A healthy and fresh dinner will be prepared on boat.

Day 14. Kalong Island - Komodo Island - Pink Beach Snorkelling

After breakfast we sail to Loh Liang Station on Komodo Island, where we will do an hour's trekking to Banunggulung, former feeding ground to see the Komodo Dragon in the wild. During our way to Banunggulung we will see other wildlife such as wild pigs, deer and various colorful birds. Then take a hike to the famous 'Pink Beach' that offers a beautiful marine life of corals and colorful fish. After spending some time here for snorkeling, we return to Labuan Bajo for overnight.

Day 15. Labuan Bajo - Bali

After breakfast visit the famous Batu Cermin Cave. Batu Cermin is the Indonesian name for Mirror Rock. The limestone Mirror Rock gives this outcrop its name. Depending on the time of year the sun shines into the canyon between 9 am and 10 am and is reflected on the walls. This creates a spectacular visual effect. Transfer to Labuan Bajo airport and fly to Bali. Upon arrival transfer to your hotel.

Day 16. Bali

After breakfast enjoy a day at leisure at the beach.

Day 17. Bali - Departure

According to your flight schedule transfer to the airport for departure back to the UK.
