Finally soak up the atmosphere in Georgetown, Penang, the first British settlement in Southeast Asia.

SUGGESTED ITINERARY

Day 1. Arrive Kuala Lumpur - Malacca (-/-/-)

Upon arrival at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, meet your guide who will transfer you to your hotel in Malacca. The afternoon is free at leisure.

Day 2. Malacca (B/L/-)

After breakfast, see the ruins of the A Famosa fortress, the Dutch Square and walk across the bridge over the river to stroll along the streets of old Malacca. Most of the old buildings have been renovated in respect of their original design and converted into curio shops. Proceed for a cruise along the Malacca river and observe buildings with Dutch and British architectural influence. Visit the Baba & Nyonya House Museum. After lunch, see the Cheng Hoon Teng Temple, the oldest Chinese temple in Malaysia (1645), and the Kampung Kling Mosque, the oldest mosque in Malacca. Lastly, stop at Bukit China (Chinese hill), the largest Chinese cemetery outside China. Most of the tour is a walk-about.

Day 3. Malacca - Kuala Lumpur (B/L/-)

After breakfast drive to Kuala Lumpur. In the afternoon proceed for a colonial city tour, starting with a photo-stop at the tallest twin towers in the world – Petronas Twin Towers. Drive through Lake Garden and catch a glimpse of the National Mosque. Witness a fine Moorish Architecture from the 19th Century in Sultan Abdul Samad Building and the old Railway Station (Independence Square). Explore a river confluence at Masjid Jamek, where Kuala Lumpur was founded. Visit the Arch KL City Gallery to learn about the history of Kuala Lumpur. The highlight of the gallery is the spectacular Kuala Lumpur City Model, measuring an incredible 40ft x 50ft, which showcases the city’s past, present and future through advance multimedia projection mapping on the model, the first of its kind in South East Asia. Visit the famous Central market which began life as a wet market in 1888, and after a long history of changes, was transformed into an award winning tourist attraction. Here you can buy some traditional gifts to take back home. 

Day 4. Kuala Lumpur - Cooking Class (B/L/-)

Malaysian food is a delectable fusion of various diverse cultures predominantly Malay, Chinese and Indian. You will be introduced to some of the traditional favorites like Rendang, Nasi Lemak, Char Koay Teow, Dhall and lots of others too. The cooking class includes a visit to the market to buy food, followed by the cooking experience. 

Day 5. Kuala Lumpur - Batu Caves (B/L/-)

The highlight of this tour is the visit to the Batu Caves, where the most important Hindu Temple in Malaysia is found. The caves are located a few kilometres from Kuala Lumpur town, inside a natural limestone outcrop. The temple is dedicated to Lord Subramaniam, and is the venue of the impressive Thaipussam celebration held here every year. To fully appreciate the visit to the caves, one must be ready to climb the 272 steps leading to the caves' main entrance. No particular fitness level is required, although people with walking disorders are discouraged from climbing to the top. The tour continues with a visit to a small batik factory, where a demonstration of this painting technique is given, before proceeding to the Royal Selangor Pewter, a modern yet interesting factory where pewter products are skilfully hand-manufactured. The tour is followed by a banana leaf lunch in local restaurant.       

Day 6. Kuala Lumpur - Cameron Highlands (B/-/D)

Pick up at the hotel lobby and depart for Cameron Highlands. Drive through a scenic mountain jungle winding road and on the way visit Lata Iskandar waterfall, a native settlement and a bamboo basket-making stall. Sweaters are recommended for evenings. Steam boat dinner in the hotel.

Day 7. Cameron Highlands - Ipoh - Belum Rainforest (B/L/D)

Breakfast in the hotel. Cameron Highlands tour starts in the morning with a visit to the tea plantation, tea factory and vegetable market. Please note that the tea factory is closed on Mondays and public holidays (and also on Tuesdays if the preceding Monday is a public holiday). Along the journey visit the Perak Tong Temple in Ipoh, the Ubudiah Mosque, Iskandariah Palace, Istana Kenangan Museum. From there continue towards Belum Rainforest Reserve, situated near to the border with Thailand. Arrive in the evening (about 3 hours from Kuala Kangsar) and check into the nature lodge of Belum. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 8. Belum Rainforest (B/L/D)

After breakfast at depart for a full day excursion of Belum Forest. The trip explores the various flora and fauna of the area - one of the oldest and most pristine rainforests in Peninsular Malaysia. A light picnic lunch is included. Dinner at the lodge and overnight.

Day 9. Belum Rainforest - Bukit Merah Orang Utan Island - Penang (B/-/-)

In the morning leave Belum heading to Penang. On the way stop at Bukit Merah, the only orang-utan research facility in Peninsular Malaysia. A short boat ride on the lake will take you to the orang-utan island, where the primates roam free. This unique island serves as a breeding sanctuary as well as a conservation, research and education centre to better understand this endangered species. Please note that the visit to the orang-utan island is not guaranteed due to the fluctuation of the water level at Lake Merah. Cross the third longest bridge in the world, that links the Peninsula and Penang Island. Check in and overnight.

Day 10. Penang (B/-/-)

After breakfast the day starts with a visit to the Kek Lok Si Temple, a Buddhist Temple where Mahayana Buddhism and traditional Chinese rituals blend into a harmonious whole. The tour continues with the sightseeing of Georgetown city, visiting the reclining Buddha at the Wat Chayamangkalaram, the 4th longest reclining Buddha in the world. Next visit the Fort Cornwallis of the East India co., where Captain Francis Light landed in 1786. View the heritage of the Khoo Kongsi clan house, where you will be fascinated by the detailed carvings on the walls, pillars and roofs by master craftsmen from China. Be amused by the colours, sounds, perfumes and faces of the people living in the streets of Little India. Afternoon free at leisure.

Day 11. Departure (B/-/-)

Breakfast in the hotel. Transfer to the airport/jetty for your departure flight/boat (if you are continuing to Langkawi).
