Philippines - Three Volcanoes Tour

6 Days / 5 Nights

This tour introduces you to the most active volcanoes in the Philippines.

Considered as the most active volcano in the Philippines, Mayon Volcano from the word “Magayonon” which means beautiful has its “Perfect Cone”, has had at least 43 eruptions since 1616. Its' most violent and devastating outburst occurred on February 1, 1814.

Named as the ‘Sleeping Giant”, Mt. Pinatubo’s eruption in 1991 altered global climate and caused mudflows to cascade down its slopes, destroying everything along its path and leaving behind a labyrinth of towering lahar cliffs. The crater lake within the mouth of the volcano has a halcyon shade of blue that contrasts with the black, strombolic fury it exhibited 19 years ago.

Taal Volcano offers adventurers the unique thrill of exploring nature and experiencing the attractions of the “world's smallest active volcano”. It is famous for having “an island in a lake on an island in a lake on an island” in the Pacific Ocean.

SUGGESTED ITINERARY

Day 1. Arrive Manila (-/-/D)

Welcome to Manila! On arrival first clear immigration formalities and then collect your luggage. As you exit customs into the arrival hall meet your English-speaking guide and transfer to your centrally located hotel.

In the evening: welcome dinner at Barbara’s Intramuros. After dinner, back to your hotel for overnight accommodation.

Day 2. Manila - Taal Volcano - Manila (B/L/-)

Drive through scenic countryside to the town of Talisay in the province of Batangas. Upon arrival, board motorized outriggers to Taal Volcano Island 45 mins away. Assisted by an island coordinator, trek up the dormant yet active volcano, the smallest in the world, which takes about 1.5 hours to a wide expanse of hardened black lava at the rim of the crater and view the awesome moon-like landscape. The experience is breathtaking! The caldera is smoldering with sulfuric vapor once you reach the lake within the volcano. Another 1.5 hours on the way back to the foot of the volcano, indeed a great outdoor activity. Return to a shoreline resort for a sumptuous lunch. There are a host of activities that can be enjoyed on the island. Among them are horseback riding, trekking and camping. Overnight in Manila.

Day 3. Manila - Pinatubo - Manila (B/L/-)

Early morning depart for Mt. Pinatubo, home to Apo Malyari, the “Great Provider” and the spirits of ancestors of some 3,000 nomadic Aeta Negritoes found in the high elevation settlements in Pampanga, Tarlac and Zambales Provinces, north of Manila. In 1991, the dormant Mt. Pinatubo suddenly exploded, becoming one of the more significant volcanic eruptions of the 20th century. Since then, the mountain’s breathtaking terrain and rugged beauty has drawn scores of adventure lovers and thrill seekers. Board 4x4 terrain vehicles that take you up to the bedrock, before you start trekking towards the lake to enjoy the magnificent views of the crater. After lunch, proceed towards Bacolor to visit the famous San Guillermo Church which is half buried in lahar flow and still being used today. Overnight in Manila.

Day 4. Manila - Legaspi (B/L/-)

After breakfast transfer to the airport to board your flight to Legaspi.

Upon arrival take a short tour of the city located at the foot of Mt. Mayon.

Have a peaceful walk at the Church of Daraga – a church established by a group of Franciscan priests in 1773 and stunningly crafted with volcanic stones and belfry on one side. Drive to Ligñon Hill which is considered a prime location for thrill and scenery. You can get a panoramic 360 degree view of Legaspi City, Daraga, Albay Gulf and the Mayon Volcano. Overnight in a local hotel.

Day 5. Tour of Mayon Volcano (B/L/-)

A whole day trip up and around Mayon Volcano which includes volcanic mudflow gulley, Handmade Paper factory, Kobo Cutleries, Tiwi Ceramics, Skyline Hotel, Cagsawa Ruins, & Daraga Church.

The eruptions of Mayon are usually "Vulcanian" or explosive in nature. They are characterized by the emission of fine ash and ash-laden gases forming huge "cauliflower" clouds. The symmetry of the volcano indicates that the eruptions have always occured at the central vent and that these have never been violent enough to destroy Mayon's form.

Mayon, though sometimes destructive, is also productive. Its fertile slopes and surrounding plains, coupled by abundant rainfall throughout the year, have made Albay a rich agricultural region with the bulk of its population found in towns bordering the volcano such as Camalig, Guinobatan, Daraga, Legaspi, Sto. Domingo, Ligao and Malilipot. The region is suited for growing abaca and coconut, two of Bicol's major crops, as well as palay and vegetables.

Overnight in a local hotel.

Day 6. Legaspi - Manila - Departure (B/-/-)

After breakfast transfer to the airport for your return flight back to Manila.

Upon arrival in Manila transfer to connect to your flight for your onward destination.
