SUGGESTED ITINERARY

Day 1. Arrive San José (-/-/-)

Welcome to San José, Costa Rica. Meet your driver and transfer to your hotel. Explore the city and its charms, its theatres, museums, shopping, or just enjoy a coffee while watching the daily life of the "Ticos". 

Day 2. San José (B/-/-)

Breakfast at the hotel. Free day to visit the many attractions nearby the capital city. The Poas Volcano, Sarchi and its beautiful crafts, Irazu Volcano and orchid gardens, rainforest aerial tram, white water rafting in the Pacuare River,  Tortuga Island Cruise, the coffee tour and many other options that are available. In the night you can visit the typical restaurants, some of them offer a Costa Rican show with masquerades.

Day 3. San José - Tortuguero (B/L/D)

Breakfast at the hotel. Today we will drive through the majestic Braulio Carrillo National Park on your way to Guapiles, where you will enjoy a delicious typical breakfast. Our destination is a boat dock to board our river boat and embark on a 1 hour 30 minutes journey through the rivers and canals of Tortuguero before arriving at our hotel. After lunch, we will visit the town of Tortuguero. Dinner is included.

Day 4. Tortuguero (B/L/D)

Breakfast at the hotel. In the morning you will hike throw the private trails of the Hotel. After lunch you will tour by boat through the canals of Tortuguero. The Tortuguero National Park is famous for being the habitat for seven species of turtles, a great diversity of crustaceans and many species of freshwater fish. Also, we recommend the night tour to see nesting sea turtles (July to September). Dinner is included.

Day 5. Tortuguero - Puerto Viejo (B/-/-)

Breakfast at the hotel. After breakfast, we will return to la Pavona pier and then to continue by land to the town of Guapiles. Here, after lunch you may continue by shuttle or rental car to the Southern Caribbean, to either Puerto Viejo or Cahuita depending on which hotel you have chosen. The contrast of cultures will call your attention, since Puerto Viejo is the cradle of Costa Rica’s Afro-Caribbean culture.

Day 6. Puerto Viejo (B/-/-)

Breakfast at the hotel. The Southern Caribbean, largely influenced by Afro-Caribbean traditions and culture, boasts one of the best beach areas of the country. There are many other activity options, such as visiting the Cahuita National Park, diving or snorkelling around coral reefs and admiring the beautiful hidden marine life. Another experience that you should not pass up is to enjoy a typical Caribbean lunch or dinner.

Day 7. Puerto Viejo (B/-/-)

Breakfast at the hotel. Day at leisure to enjoy of the facilities of the hotel and the beautiful beaches of Puerto Viejo.

Day 8. Puerto Viejo - Arenal Volcano (B/-/-)

Breakfast at the hotel. Awaiting you today in the Northern Plains is the impressive Arenal Volcano, a natural wonder offering you the chance to witness the cone-shaped crater. Along the way there, you will see various agricultural and ornamental plant plantations and cattle ranches, until you reach the town of La Fortuna. The town is worth visiting to walk around and to have lunch or dinner. Your hotel is strategically located to appreciate the Volcano.

Day 9. Arenal Volcano (B/-/-)

Breakfast at the hotel. The resorts with hot springs and spas represent one of the biggest attractions to enjoy in this region. Another claim to fame in the area is the amount of activities available: canopy tours, suspension bridges, aerial trams, a visit to the La Fortuna Waterfall either by walking or horseback riding, as well as other activities on Lake Arenal.

Day 10. Arenal Volcano - Rio Celeste (B/-/-)

Breakfast at the hotel. This morning your trip will take you to the warm tropical forest, en route you will observe beautiful landscapes and picturesque villages typical of the country. The evergreen landscape is made up of beautiful plantations and cattle ranches in an ecologically oriented area, providing a truly unique experience in the rainforest, located next to the Tenorio Volcano National Park (where the incredible Rio Celeste gets its stunning light blue colour).

Day 11. Rio Celeste (B/-/-)

Breakfast at the Hotel. Free day to enjoy the activities around the Celeste River

and the tropical forest that surrounds you.

Day 12. Rio Celeste - Monteverde (B/-/-)

Breakfast at the hotel. Your next destination is the Monteverde cloud forest, a small community located at the top of the Tilarán Mountain Range and an important ecotourism destination in Costa Rica; the main attraction is the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. During the trip, you will see Lake Arenal and beautiful landscapes, and pass through some typical country villages. You will have the afternoon free to enjoy your hotel’s facilities.

Day 13. Monteverde (B/-/-)

Breakfast at the hotel. Today is a free day. Monteverde is globally recognized for its cloud forest that extends to both sides of the Continental Divide. Currently, there are two reserves in the area: the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve and the Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve. You will be amazed at the area’s diversity and richness of nature walking along the numerous trails in either reserve. In the higher parts of the forest, there exists what is called “natural Elfin Forest” (the climate is such that the tallest trees do not exceed 10 meters). There are many activities in the area to complement your visit: adventure zip line tours, hanging bridges, hummingbird gardens, butterfly gardens, a Serpentarium (one of the best in the country), a nocturnal wildlife tour, horseback riding, a cheese tour (cheeses made in the town are the best in Costa Rica), etc.

Day 14. Monteverde - Manuel Antonio (B/-/-)

Breakfast at the hotel. This morning you will journey down the mountains to the warm Central Pacific Coast of Costa Rica. Manuel Antonio is your next destination; it is home to the smallest but most visited national parks in Costa Rica. During our trip, we’ll stop at the famous Tarcoles River Bridge to observe giant crocodiles. The lush landscape along the Central Pacific Coast is composed of rice and palm oil plantations.

Day 15. Manuel Antonio (B/-/-)

Breakfast at the hotel. Today is a free day. The Manuel Antonio National Park is known for its beautiful beaches between mountains and forests. It has several trails for walking, viewpoints, and a high probability of seeing animals, especially the 4 species of Costa Rican monkeys, sloths, coatis, and raccoons. Many adventures are available in the Manuel Antonio area, such as canopy tours, horseback riding, sunset cruises to see dolphins and whales, and whitewater rafting on the Savegre River. The area offers a wide variety of cuisine for all tastes.

Day 16. Manuel Antonio (B/-/-)

Breakfast at the hotel. Day at leisure to enjoy of the facilities of the hotel and the beautiful beaches of Manuel Antonio.

Day 17. Manuel Antonio - Corcovado (B/-/D)

Breakfast at the hotel. We will transfer from the hotel to Sierpe village, where you will find the “jewel of Costa Rica”, the Corcovado National Park. Upon arrival to Sierpe, we will travel by boat down the Sierpe River to the hotel of your choice. You will encounter a spectacular wetland characterized by vegetation and wildlife that is so unique to the environment. Enjoy the diversity of landscapes and abundant biodiversity of the area during your journey.

Day 18. Corcovado (B/L/D)

Breakfast at the hotel. Today you can enjoy a hike in the Corcovado National Park, or visit the Caño Island Biological Reserve, or explore the surroundings of your hotel and enjoy bird watching. A delicious lunch will be included in your tour (location dependent upon which tour you choose). The southern lowlands of Costa Rica are home to the last rainforests of the Central American Pacific Coast, making it a unique experience. Dinner included at the hotel.

Day 19. Corcovado (B/L/D)

Breakfast at the hotel. Depending on what you did yesterday, today you can enjoy a hike in the Corcovado National Park, or visit the Caño Island Biological Reserve, or explore the surroundings of your hotel and enjoy bird watching. A delicious lunch will be included in your tour (location dependent upon which tour you choose). The waters around Caño Island have one of the most extensive coral reefs in excellent condition on Costa Rica’s Pacific Coast. On land at the island, you will find remains of stone spheres created by ancient indigenous civilizations. Dinner included at the hotel.

Day 20. Corcovado - San José (B/-/-)

Breakfast at the hotel. We will transfer by boat from the hotel in Corcovado to the airstrip for a domestic flight from Palmar Sur to San Jose. Upon arrival to San José, we will be transfer to the hotel. 

Day 21. San José - Departure (B/-/-)

Breakfast at the hotel. Departure transfer to the airport.
