Trang Province and Koh Hai
4 Days / 3 Nights
Located in the far southwest of Thailand, Trang province has much to offer for the traveler who is looking to combine leisure time at a quiet beach with some local traditions and amazing nature.
Trang is an attractive town with a mixed cultural heritage of Thai, Chinese and Malaysian influences. Apart from a typical Thai atmosphere, you will find Thai-Chinese temples and town houses along Muslim Thai market vendors or food stalls. Trang is a good example of Thai cultural and religious diversity. It was also the first province introduced to rubber trees and the result can be seen in the present landscape of rubber plantations It is also known for its food! In the morning people like to start the day with fresh rice noodles topped with spicy curry, rice porridge or Chinese dim sum paired with milk tea or coffee. For lunch and dinner all kinds of typical southern Thai curries are on the menu; all full of flavor and spice! If you prefer something less spicy there is always the famous grilled pork or fried chicken sold all over town.
Our itineraries are suggestions and are fully customisable according to your needs, interests and budget.
Treat these itineraries as inspiration and one of our experts will create your uniquely tailored holiday with your requests in mind so that you can truly experience Thailand with Seven Senses.
Day 1. Trang (-/L/-)
You arrive in the morning by overnight train at Trang railway station (or airport). Here your driver and guide will pick you up. You have time for a local breakfast and to freshen up a little before it is time to head northeast to the beautiful Khao Chang Hai Cave. The first part of this impressive cave full of stalagmites and stalactites is easy to walk, but the second part is quite narrow.
After the cave we continue to the Na Muen Si Textile Group to see how this typical type of southern weaving is created. Some patterns are influenced by old sea trade routes and still exist today. You can even give the weaving a try yourself!
After this we continue further north to Huay Yod district to visit Ko Piak Homestay. The owner is famous for his delicious fried noodles (phad thai) that he sells in his restaurant in town. You will learn how to make this dish at the homestay and enjoy it for lunch in the beautiful setting of the mangrove plantation with Karst Mountains in the background. During the ride to our last place to visit for the day you can relax and prepare for a walk at the Thung Khai Botanic Garden. Besides the Nature Trail you can enjoy a bird’s eye view from the canopy walk.
After the Botanic Garden we return to your hotel in Trang where the evening is free at leisure. You can have dinner in one of the many local restaurants at walking distance or take a Trang tuk tuk, nicknamed kob (frog) to the Center Point or Cinta evening market.
Day 2. Trang – Koh Hai (B/-/-)
Get ready for a day of nature and history exploring south and west from Trang city. First, we visit the museum of Phraya Ratsadanupradit Mahison Phakdi. As member of a wealthy Thai-Chinese family he was appointed governor of Trang in 1890 and introduced the rubber trees from Malaysia to Thailand. His house is now open to the public and allows visitors a peek into the life of a wealthy family in the 19th century. The importance of rubber can be seen everywhere in Trang province as rubber plantations cover large parts. We also have a brief stop at the very first rubber tree.
Up next is Kantang train station, the first train station in Thailand. The picturesque wooden station is still in use and offers daily trains all the way up north to Bangkok!
We then head to the pier where you will board a private long tail boat to Koh Hai, your final destination for the day. On arrival at the pier on Koh Hai, make your own way to your hotel (there are plenty of transport options upon arrival on the island).
Day 3. Koh Hai (B/-/-)
Day 4. Koh Hai – Trang (B/-/-)
After breakfast, make your own way to the pier where you will board a private long tail boat back to the mainland. From here transfer to Trang train station or airport for your departure.
