Vietnam's Northeast Mountains Escape

5 Days / 4 Nights

Let us take you to the remote corner of the northeast mountainous area, Cao Bang province. You will not only travel fast by and photograph the giant Ban Gioc waterfall like a normal tourist but will venture deeply, walk slowly along the river, rice fields, and stay in remote, non-touristy yet welcoming villages. The accommodation is rustic but the lifestyle is authentic and the hospitality of the Tay ethnic family is unrivaled. It is all about soft trek but can be customized to your interest and capacity, from 3 to 7 hours trekking a day.

Our itineraries are suggestions and are fully customisable according to your needs, interests and budget.

Treat these itineraries as inspiration and one of our experts will create your uniquely tailored holiday with your requests in mind so that you can truly experience Vietnam with Seven Senses.

Day 1. Hanoi - Cao Bang - Trung Khanh (-/-/D)

In the morning, head northeast to the direction of Thai Nguyen, the land of tea. Stop by the informative ethnic cultures museum as an introduction before you venture to the territory of Tay, Nung, Dao…

Continue driving to Cao Bang then Trung Khanh. (330 kms - 7 hours' drive.) Take a leisure walk (3-5km) to the Tay ethnic village where you will stay for the first night. If time and weather permits, you can enjoy swimming in a nice cascade.

Lunch en route (at own account).

Dinner and overnight at the local house.

Day 2. Trung Khanh - Bian Gioc Waterfall Soft Trek (B/L/D)

After a breakfast, bid farewell to the family. You will trek along the peaceful Quay Son River, the valley and terrace rice fields. Make some tea & talk stop on the way, chatting with friendly locals that you encounter on the way.

Explore the surprising Nguom Ngao Cave before arriving at Ban Gioc.

Picnic or lunch at local house. Dinner and overnight at Sai Gon Ban Gioc Hotel (3*)

Note: Today is about soft-trek, the distance and time can be tailored depending on your wishes, between 3 to 7 hours. There is a shortcut and exit for the vehicle to come and pick you up.

Day 3. Ban Gioc - Bac Son (B/-/D)

Better wake up early and walk down to the waterfall before the crowds arrive.

Continue via That Khe, Bac Son villages (Lang Son province). Stops on the way to visit some handicraft villages, such as blacksmiths, incense stick makers, ying-yang tile makers.

Be welcomed by another hospitable Tay ethnic family.

In the afternoon, walk or borrow some bikes, and explore the surroundings, learn about traditional farming, specifically tobacco planting and drying and probably hike up to the nearby summit (1 hour's hike) for a stunning panoramic view down to Bac Son valley. Majestic scenery before harvest season.

Lunch en route (at own account).

Dinner and overnight at the local house.

Day 4. Bac Son - Halong Bay (B/L/D)
